When would children need Myobrace?
When there are issues with the muscles and functions of the face and mouth, it can often lead to what we call ‘malocclusion’ in the mouth, which can be dental crowding or an overbite, for example. If these problems are not spotted early by an experienced dentist – before all permanent teeth are present – it can cause real challenges as they get older.
However, the good news is corrective treatment can begin as early as three years of age. Appledore Dental &Implant Centre in Milton Keynes has an impressive background in orthodontics, specifically relating to children and teenagers, and has achieved impressive results with Myobrace, Invisalign and other fixed and flexible brace solutions.
What is Myobrace?
Non-surgical teeth straightening for children
At Appledore Dental &Implant Centre in Milton Keynes, we’re delighted to be able to provide our young patients with a new, innovative treatment to help straighten their teeth, improve their jaw development, and prevent the need for braces.
The Myobrace® System is a preventive pre-orthodontic treatment that addresses the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces or extraction of teeth, unlocking natural growth and development. Treatment is best suited to children aged 3 to 15 and involves using a series of removable intra-oral appliances worn for 1-2 hours each day plus overnight while sleeping.
A Myobrace is easily removed and maintained, and when working alongside a professional dentist ensures that any potential oral development issues are prevented, rather than trying to fix them in the future.
The goal of a Myobrace is to help your child:
- Breathe through their nose
- Rest their tongue in the correct position
- Swallow correctly
- Keep their lips together passively
Implementing these good habits at an early age dramatically impacts the development of a child’s face, jaw muscles and teeth. In turn, this can positively impact a child’s overall development. Some of the results include the following:
- Correction of poor oral habits
- Correct growth and alignment of both lower and upper jaw
- Straightening of teeth
- Correct facial development
- Overall health and breathing improvements
How does it work?
Myobrace is a preventative treatment that seeks to remedy any issues with oral development before they arise, which can result in expensive further treatments, including braces or teeth extraction.
Poor oral habits occur significantly earlier than poor development of the teeth and jaw, so correcting these at an early age (as early as three years old) is a simple preventative measure to save patients money and time down the line with expensive corrective or cosmetic procedures.
