The British Orthodontic Society would like all children who need treatment to be able to access it at the optimum time in their development, on average at about the age of 12. According to the legislation, any child deemed by a specialist to need treatment is entitled to receive it. NHS Local Commissioning Teams have been able to control the size of contracts held by orthodontists. This means that sometimes there is a mismatch between the number of patients who want and qualify for treatment and the availability of funding, resulting in a waiting list.  British Orthodontic Society, May 2021.

NHS WAITING LISTS ARE 2-3 YEARS IN SOME AREAS

Unfortunately, Covid has not helped this situation and we are aware that the same kids who have been disadvantaged with their schooling during this period will also be disadvantaged with their dental care; with many missing their dental check-ups during the lockdowns.  The good thing is that at Appledore we offer FREE dental check-ups for children.

Appledore is a private dental clinic in MK, and we wish to support our local community by making teenage orthodontics more accessible, so we’re offering a basic range of reasonably priced, NHS style orthodontic treatments which are suitable for teens aged 12-15.  We aim only to cover our basic running costs and will run our Teen-Ortho clinic every Tuesday from 9am to 3pm*.  Teen-Ortho patients will be seen either by myself or Dr Gemma Bunton**, and although Appledore is not a specialist orthodontic clinic, we have many decades of quality experience and many happy patients in this area of dentistry.
